Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG) will once again be hosting the popular Penarth Local Food Festival this summer. This year’s Festival will take place on Sunday July 20th from 11am to 4pm. Once again the location will be The Kymin House and Grounds on Beach Road, an ideal location with stunning views across the Bristol Channel.

The Festival has fast become one of Penarth’s summer highlights and provides a unique showcase for the best of local produce and local food businesses. This year’s mouth watering line up of stalls  includes all the regular favourites plus a few tasty new additions. Visitors will be able to sample and buy a wide range of fresh local produce such as Welsh cheeses, breads, preserves, Welsh honey, local beers, locally grown herbs and much more. There will also be a wide variety of hot food on offer including the always popular Glam Lamb burgers, a fish grill from the Fig Tree and vegetarian treats from Hamptons and the Parsnipship . Other stalls offering lunchtime treats include Bar 44 and Foxy’s Deli.

In addition to enjoying the tasty food and drink on offer visitors will be able to relax and enjoy a selection of acoustic music acts, while children will be catered for with dedicated kids’ craft tent that this year explores the world of the seashore. A welcome return to the festival this year is Pedal Café with their pedal powered smoothie maker, always popular with children of all ages. There will also be the usual Food Festival raffle with some very generous prizes donated by local businesses.

For GPG the festival provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable and environmental food issues and to highlight other GPG community projects. It is also an important showcase for the GPG ‘Shop in Penarth’ scheme that promotes local independent businesses and highlights their importance to the local economy.

GPG Chair and festival co-organiser Anthony Slaughter said, ‘We are very pleased with the ongoing popularity of the Food Festival and are looking forward to another enjoyable and appetising day. The day is a great chance to showcase the many excellent food producers based in the region.’

Make sure the date is in your diary and head down to the Kymin on July 20th for an enjoyable celebration of the local and sustainable, a chance to support the local economy and sample some wonderful food.

Feedback from last year’s event and a facebook album of the day. Many thanks to webjects for the lovely photos.
