Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG) will once again be hosting the popular Penarth Local Food Festival this summer. This year’s Festival will take place on Sunday July 12th from 11am to 4pm. Once again the location will be The Kymin House and Grounds on Beach Road, an ideal location for this very popular community event which was described by one stallholder as ‘the festival with the view’
The Festival has become one of Penarth’s summer highlights and provides a unique showcase for the best of local produce and local food businesses. This year’s mouth watering line up of stalls includes all the regular favourites plus a few tasty new additions. Visitors will be able to sample and buy a wide range of fresh local produce such as Welsh cheeses, breads, preserves, Welsh honey, local beers, locally grown herbs and much more. There will also be a wide variety of hot food on offer including the always popular Glam Lamb burgers, a fish grill from the Fig Tree and vegetarian treats from the Parsnipship. Other stalls offering lunchtime treats include Bar 44 and Restaurant James Sommerin
In addition to enjoying the tasty food and drink on offer visitors will be able to relax and enjoy a wide range of family friendly activities including a dedicated kids’ craft tent, community growing projects and the return of last year’s very popular Eggseeds educational chicken and duck display.
For GPG the festival provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable and environmental food issues and to highlight other GPG community projects. It is also an important showcase for the GPG ‘Shop in Penarth’ scheme that promotes local independent businesses and highlights their importance to the local economy.
GPG Chair and festival organiser Anthony Slaughter said, ‘’We are really pleased with the ongoing popularity of the Food Festival. Now in its fifth year the event is a real community celebration of the local and the sustainable.’
